NADCA, "Take a Detailed Dive into the Various Methods of Diecasting Process Control"

Posted by Dr. Morris Murphy on Apr 17, 2019 12:10:10 PM

It is important to know what type of control method is applicable to each of the die casting machine/die/process systems.

North American Diecasting Association (NADCA) has created a three level approach to addressing process control. This series is broken down by beginner, intermediate and advanced courses suitable for people with varying levels of knowledge in this area. Learn more at this NADCA page.

"Reducing Porosity in High Pressure Zinc Die Casting," Guest Post by Bruschi, Abbiategrasso, Italy

Posted by Hill and Griffith Company on Sep 26, 2018 1:53:42 PM

High pressure zinc die casting is the process of forcing molten zinc based alloy under high pressure into a mould cavity. This delicate process can be influenced by a series of factors like the mould geometry, the composition of the alloy and the injection process that forces the molten metal into the mould.

In this Bruschi blog post, we'll dive into the most common defects that can appear in high pressure zinc die casting and a possible way to avoid them.

• Gas porosity
• Shrinkage porosity
• Leaks
• Possible solutions

Porosity influences the quality of final product in terms of tightness and strength. The most common porosity types are gas porosity, shrinkage porosity and leaks.

NADCA Video News Highight: High Integrity Die Casting: Melting, Melt Treatment, and Transfer

Posted by Hill and Griffith Company on Sep 19, 2018 3:56:30 PM

The material presented in this video are some highlights from the North American Die Casting Association’s online webinar, "High Integrity Die Casting: Melting, Melt Treatment, and Transfer for High Integrity Die Casting."

In this webinar best practices of melting, melt treatment and transfer for aluminum high integrity die casting of structural components will be presented and discussed. Many oxide and other inclusions originate from inappropriate practices with the liquid aluminum before it is cast. They cause quality issues / high scrap rates and reduced properties. This webinar explains how to avoid them by using best practices like filtering, degassing, fluxing, skimming, settling, quiescent transfer, etc.
