The material presented in this video are some highlights from NADCA’s online webinar - Die Casting Defects - Flash, Solder, and Other Defects. This course is focused on the causes and corrective measures related to a number of defects including: blisters, sinks, solder, flash, erosion, out-gassing, and cold flakes.
This is an example that you can see there is a rough area. This is a frying pan die casting. We start to get rough areas and we start to get sinks in those areas. The operators learn they just need to change the spray to eliminate those problems. Here is another example of a sink. Shrink is behind that. We've got this surface here and this is actually sunken down into the die casting. This is the deepest portion and we get a sink that forms on the surface of the casting.
So, we've covered blisters, which is nothing more than gas. We've covered sink, which is nothing more than shrink porosity close to the surface of the die casting.
