Rust Inhibitor, Ready to Apply
GRIFCOTE® RI (Rust Inhibitor) was developed to provide a minimum of 90 days protection for steel forms when stored outside and covered. GRIFCOTE® RI does not need to be removed before bringing the forms back into production.
GRIFCOTE® form release agents can be applied directly onto a GRIFCOTE® RI coated surface. The release agent will blend into the GRIFCOTE® RI and give excellent release on the initial pour after being brought out of storage. It should be noted, however, that if the forms are not cleaned, some staining is expected to occur. Forms can, and in most cases will, be cleaned simply by spraying on a coat of GRIFCOTE® form release and wiping the form down.
GRIFCOTE® RI is ready to apply. No mixing or dilution is needed. A minimum of 90 days protection is provided when the forms are stored outside under covered protection and 12 months minimum inside storage. GRIFCOTE® RI also offers limited periods of protection when forms are exposed to salt spray or acid atmospheres. A thin application (typically 0.002-inches) is all that is needed, but over-application can occur without detrimental effect to the form.
The unusual polar characteristic of GRIFCOTE® RI (chemical adhesion to the metal), in addition to providing outstanding rust and corrosion resistance, is positive-penetrating moisture-displacing and provides valuable lubricating properties. GRIFCOTE® RI DOES NOT have to be removed from the form when brought back into production if GRIFCOTE® concrete release agents are being used (Note: Some staining may occur if the forms are not cleaned by spraying with GRIFCOTE® form release agents and wiped down.) The very nature of the GRIFCOTE® RI is that it is compatible with the reactive portion of the GRIFCOTE® form release agents.
APPLICATION:Form surfaces should be dry and free from concrete build-up before GRIFCOTE® RI is applied. If raw metal has been exposed due to cleaning practices, a liberal coat of GRIFCOTE® CC-50-VOC should be applied first. GRIFCOTE® RI is ready to use; it is not necessary to dilute before using. Application can be done by using conventional or airless spraying equipment, roller, mops, wipe-on or any other conventional methods of application Over-application should be avoided, but is not detrimental should it occur. A 0.002-inch thick application is sufficient for protection.
GRIFCOTE® RI is non-carcinogenic, has a high flash point and is non-DOT regulated. It has indefinite freeze/thaw cycles and is always ready to use. No mixing or blending is necessary. |
